Description

Barn. Built in the early 17th century, the barn is timber-framed and clad in weatherboarding, with a corrugated iron roof. The structure features full-height studs, straight tie-beams, and long arched braces, although most of the braces have been removed and replaced with bolted knees. The roof is divided into 14 short bays, with one row of unstepped butt purlins and one row of clasped principals. Windbraces are present; the two central bays have two braces per bay facing inwards, while the remaining bays have a single brace facing inwards. Later floors have been added to the interior. A porch projecting on the south side is of a slightly later date and features a frame with a middle rail and a roof with clasped side purlins, with principals that are not diminished. The barn is situated on the parish boundary between Framlingham and Parham, lying between the farmhouse and the farm buildings.
