Description
The Walmesley Memorial, dated 1893 and possibly designed by W.J. Willcox, is a memorial column dedicated to R. Walmsley of Lucknam Park. It is constructed from Bath stone and features a large stone step inscribed with "F. Sheppard, Colerne." The memorial has a high pedestal with a moulded base and cornice, which includes inscription panels, the arms, and the monogram of R. Walmsley. The column is designed in a Jacobean-type Roman Doric style, characterized by exaggerated entasis and a square cap with pendant drops at the corners. At the top, there is a stone sundial, also dated 1893. Surrounding the memorial are spearhead iron railings on a stone kerb, which enclose a triangular green, with a break on the east side for a bus shelter. There is a gatepost on the south side marked "Saunders, Batheaston."
