Description
The Waller Memorial is a chest tomb located about 17 meters south of the entrance to the Guild Chapel of the Church of St John. It commemorates William Waller, who died in 1863, and his wife Laetitia, who passed away in 1883. The architect is likely William Waller the first, a member of the Waller family known for their work as Gloucester Diocesan architects. The memorial is designed in the Gothic style, specifically the French Rayonnant style. It features a wide sloping plinth and a stepped base, with panels displaying Gothic lettering, strips of florets, and circular panels adorned with a "W" entwined in leaves on the north side. The south side is more elaborate, showcasing a prominent panel inscribed with the name "Waller" and topped with hipped coping.
