Description
No. 20, Castle Street is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century in Calne. It is constructed of limestone rubble, with a roughcast front, and has a roof of tile and fishscale tile, with a gable stack on the right-hand side. The house follows a parallel plan, consisting of a single depth of two rooms, with a former service room located to the left of the heated hall/kitchen. It is two storeys high and has a two-window front. The doorway, positioned slightly left of centre, has a four-panel door and a late 19th-century timber canopy. The ground floor has 20th-century metal casement windows. Smaller leaded casement windows in original oak frames are located on the first floor. A small gable window is situated on the right-hand side. The interior was not inspected.
