Description
No. 78 is a detached cottage dating from around 1600. It features close studded timber-framing with painted brick nogging and a thatched roof, which has gable end brick stacks. The cottage is single-storey with an attic and has two windows. There is a planked door located in a gabled porch to the left of the center, with a 2-light casement window on either side and a blocked doorway to the right, which was formerly a gable end baffle entry. The attic includes two large eyebrow dormers, each with two 2-light casements. To the right, there is a single-storey 19th-century extension that has a 2-light casement window and a brick stack. A 20th-century addition is located at the rear, and there is an added brick stack on the left return. Inside, the cottage features deep chamfered beams with scrolled stops, a timber-framed fireplace with a depressed arched lintel, and a two-bay roof with a collar and tie-beam truss, coupled rafters, and windbracing.
