Description

Longleaze Farmhouse is a late 18th-century brick farmhouse, dated 1790 with a datestone over the door. It is built with Flemish bond brickwork, and has a hipped stone slate roof with brick stacks. The building follows a U-shaped plan, with the rear courtyard having been enclosed. The front facade is two storeys high with three windows. A central 6-panelled door is sheltered by a pedimented porch, flanked on either side by 3-light beaded mullioned casement windows. A stone plat band runs along the first floor level. Above, there are three 3-light mullioned casement windows, with an open-pedimented datestone, featuring a small urn below the centre window, inscribed with "MHB / 1790". The right return side is of rubble stone construction and includes margin-pane French windows and casement windows. The left return side has beaded mullioned casements. The rear of the farmhouse includes a pair of hipped, 2-storey wings with casement windows; a formerly open centre bay has been filled with a 2-storey addition. The interior was not accessible during a survey in January 1987.
