Description

East Barton is a detached cottage dating from around 1600. It is constructed with square-panelled timber framing incorporating curved bracing, and has a Bridgwater tiled roof. An axial brick stack projects from the roof. The cottage presents a gable end to the road, with a two-bay baffle entry. It is a two-storey, two-window layout. A 20th-century porch has been added to the south (left) side, and a three-light casement window is positioned to the right. The first floor has a two-light and a three-light casement window. The right return, also with a gable end to the road, exhibits a three-light ground floor casement, a two-light first floor casement, and a single-light attic casement. The rear elevation incorporates a single-light and a two-light ground floor casement, a two-light first floor casement, and a central smoke bay constructed of rubble stone. Inside, the room to the right of the entrance features an ogee-moulded beam with ogee stops, while the east wall has an ovolo-moulded beam. The open fireplace in this room has moulded jambs, although the lintel is missing. A first-floor fireplace is characterised by a stone Tudor-arched surround.
