Description
38 Gloucester Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the 16th century and has undergone later alterations. The ground floor is made of rendered limestone rubble, while the first floor features a timber frame, with brick gable stacks and a stone slate roof. The building has a two-room plan that runs parallel to the street, with a gabled rear wing and a 20th-century rear extension. It stands two storeys tall, with an attic and basement, and has a two-window range. The first floor jetties out over the right side above a projecting doorway on the left, which has an early 20th-century porch. To the left, there is a projecting early 20th-century shop front with plate-glass windows and an iron railing above. The first floor has 6/6-pane sash windows in flush boxes, and there is a dormer featuring 20th-century casements. The interior has been altered, with ground-floor beams now enclosed, and the upper floors have not been inspected.
