Description

This is a late 17th-century house located on Gloucester Street, Malmesbury. The exterior is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a first floor of uncoursed rubble, quoins, brick gable and ridge stacks, and a stone slate roof. It follows a single-depth plan. The building presents a three-window front across two storeys and an attic. A range projecting to the rear includes doorways with 20th-century doors and a casement, timber lintels above three first-floor openings, and 6/6-pane sash windows, including a central sash, along with a casement dormer. There is also a single-storey outshut on the right-hand side. The right-hand gable features a coped top, mirroring the gable of the adjacent No.20, and a weathered band above the ground floor. Inside No.30, the ground floor features a heavy ceiling beam with wide chamfers, splayed window reveals within thick walls, a rear left-hand winder stair with a three-plank stair door, and a two-bay roof with heavy purlins, a collar in the gable, and a 18th-century tenoned ridge. The gable end is a pair to that of the adjoining property at No.20.
