Description
This building is an outbuilding of number 12 Gloucester Street in Malmesbury, originally constructed around 1803. It was built as a stable and is now used as a house. The structure features limestone rubble with dressings and has a tile mansard roof. It is a single-storey building with an attic and a single room plan, comprising a one-window range.
The gable facing the street includes a flat-headed recess that contains a late 20th-century doorway. Above this doorway is a round-arched window with a radial fanlight, along with loft doors. The kneelers at the upper section of the roof suggest that the gable was once steeper. On the right-hand side, there is a keyed round-arched window with double casement and a plate-glass fanlight, while the left-hand side features a round-arched doorway with a chamfered left-hand reveal.
The interior has not been inspected but is reported to have been converted in the late 20th century. Historically, this outbuilding was constructed following the demolition of the adjacent postern gate in 1794.
