Description
26 Gloucester Street is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed, squared limestone rubble with a brick gable stack and a stone slate roof. The building has a single-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring a two-window range. The central doorway has a 20th-century door. At the rear, there is a two-window range with first-floor windows that just break the eaves. The return and rear of the house have thick coarse rubble plinths below the ground floor, which include a weathered coping course and possibly herringbone stonework at the bottom of the roughcast gable. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the thick lower walls and coping at the rear may have been part of the old town wall, which was located on or near this site.
