Description
Number 11 is a house that includes part of the south face of St Paul's Belltower. It dates from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century. The building is constructed from roughcast limestone rubble, featuring a brick stack on the left side and a pantile roof. It has a two-bay plan that is set at right angles to the street, with two storeys and an attic, and a one-window range. The gabled front has a right-hand doorway with a bracketed canopy above a six-panel door that has glazed top panels. There are paired six-over-six pane sash windows in flush frames with thick glazing bars on the ground and first floors, and a single sash window in the attic. The left-hand return features ground and first-floor sashes at the back.
Inside, notable details include a re-used capital and part of the drum of a column from the north arcade of St Paul, located in the northwest corner of the pantry at the back of the house, along with a length of drip on its east wall. The roof features a three-bay 18th-century collar truss, and there is a right-hand rear stair flight with stick balusters and column newels. The property also includes attached front garden railings and a gate.
