Description
This milestone, located approximately 60 metres south of the Bustard Hotel, dates from the early 19th century. It is made of limestone and features a rectangular pillar with a cast-iron plate on the front. The plate has raised lettering indicating the distances to Salisbury (11 miles) and Devizes (12 miles). The turnpike road from Salisbury to Devizes was completed by around 1775.
