Description
Whiteways is a detached house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of cob with a hipped roof made of Welsh slate and features a brick stack. The building is designed in an L-shape and has two stories with a three-window front. The central door, which was not visible during the survey in October 1984, is covered by a lead canopy and leads to a latticed iron porch. There are 12-pane sash windows on either side of the door, and the first floor has three 12-pane sashes as well. The house has deep eaves beneath a shallow pitched hipped roof.
The left side of the building has no windows, while the right side features a half-glazed door on the ground floor and a 2-light casement window on the first floor. At the rear, there is an integral cob outshut with casement windows, and attached to the rear right is a mid-19th century extension built in English bond brick, which also has 2-light casements. Inside, there is a fireplace with a reeded surround and paterae in the room to the right of the front door. Renovation work was underway at the time of the survey.
