Description

Milestone located on the west side of Devizes Road (A360) in South Newton, dating from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a cast-iron plate on the front that reads "SALISBURY/4/DEVIZES/19". There is an incised bench mark below the plate. This milestone marks the road from Salisbury to Devizes via Urchfont, which was turnpiked between 1760 and 1762.
