Description
Manor House is a late 17th-century house located in Woodford Lower. It features English bond brickwork with stone dressings and a tiled roof. The building has two storeys, attics, and a basement, with a total of three bays. At the rear of the central bay, there is a stair extension, while an early 19th-century wing has been added to the rear of the left bay, featuring a slate roof. Additionally, a wing was added to the rear of the right bay around 1930.
The front elevation consists of five window bays, with a central entrance that is raised above a long, straight flight of steps. The entrance is adorned with a moulded architrave and a broken segmental pediment. Scratch dates inscribed on the jambs indicate the years 1716, 1700, and 1742. The ground floor has fifteen-paned sash windows that replaced cross windows with half brick segmental heads, although the arches of the original windows remain. The upper floor features twelve-pane sash windows, while the basement has two-light chamfered mullioned windows. The house has gable stacks, and at the rear, there is a further addition to the 19th-century wing that was made around 1900.
This house was likely the residence of George Davis, the Chief Freeholder, and there are additional dates on a blocked door indicating 1700, 1711, and RD 1747.
