Description

Court Farmhouse, along with its front garden area railings and an outbuilding that includes a post box, dates from around 1830. The farmhouse features Flemish bond brickwork and a slate roof. It is two storeys high with three bays and has a central stair hall plan. The entrance consists of a six-fielded and panelled door with a fanlight, topped by a flat canopy supported by early 20th-century timber work. The windows are sixteen-paned sashes with concealed boxes and gauged brick lintels, while the first floor has twelve-paned windows. There are blind brackets beneath the eaves, and the roof is hipped with a stack at the rear wall.

The front garden is enclosed by early 19th-century iron railings, which have a central gate and urn terminals on the stanchions. The outbuilding located immediately southeast of the farmhouse is constructed of red brick and cob, with a slate hipped roof. It has a rectangular plan with a curved south corner and features a tall red brick plinth with cob above. The north side is an open-fronted cartshed that has been partly blocked with flint and brick, and there is a stable at the west end, although its front has been obscured by a 20th-century garage with a later softwood roof structure. Notably, set into the southwest end wall of the outbuilding is a rare 1859 post box, which is an improved version of the model introduced in 1857. This post box has a pitched top to prevent leaking, unlike the earlier flat-topped design, and both types include flaps and hoods over the aperture.
