Description

Milestone located on the west side of Stapleford Devizes Road, dating from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a cast-iron plate on the front, which indicates the distance to Salisbury and Devizes. The road was turnpiked between 1760 and 1762, as noted in the Victoria County History of Wiltshire, Volume 6, published in 1959.
