Description

Shrewton House is a detached country house built around 1830, with a service wing added in the late 19th century. The front is made of limestone ashlar, with rendered brick on the sides, and the rear wing features brick cavity walling. The roof is hipped and covered with Welsh slate, and there are ashlar stacks with moulded capping. The house has a T-plan layout and is two stories tall with a three-window front.

The central entrance has double doors topped with a fanlight that includes a lamp. On either side of the doors are 15-pane tripartite sash windows. A verandah on the ground floor is supported by four pairs of stone Tuscan columns and accessed by four stone steps. The first floor features three French windows with margin panes and a balcony adorned with attractive wrought iron railings. The eaves are deep.

On the left side, there are four plate glass sashes on the ground floor and one small 12-pane sash on the first floor. The right side has three plate glass sashes and one small 12-pane sash on the first floor, along with an external stack. The rear of the main building includes a 20-pane sash window on the ground floor and a 16-pane sash on the first floor. The rear service wing has half-glazed doors and various sashes, including 4-pane, 12-pane, and plate glass windows on both floors.

Inside, the house features fine plaster ceiling margins, with vine decoration in the room to the left of the entrance and oak leaves and acorns in the room to the right. The hall is decorated with laurel leaves, and there are fireplace surrounds with paterae. The house also has a cellar. In front of Shrewton House, there are railings that match the ironwork found on the balcony.
