Description
Windsor Lodge is a house that dates back to the early 17th century but was remodeled in the early 19th century for the Earl of Shrewsbury and extended in the late 19th century. The building features stucco over timber framing on a red sandstone base, with a Welsh slate roof and two ridge brick chimneys. It likely originally had a lobby-entry plan and now includes a parallel range at the rear.
The east front is two stories high with five bays. The first and third bays have large iron small-pane casements with intersecting tracery, and the central four panes are hinged. The second bay features a simple wooden architrave with a glazed door and fanlight, along with a window above. The remaining two bays are later additions that have sash windows without glazing bars.
On the west front, there are deep tripartite windows below and 12-pane sashes above. Inside, the timber frame is almost complete, revealing the small framing of the external walls, chamfered ceiling beams, and remnants of the fireplace bressumer. The remaining fittings are later additions, including simple late 19th-century fireplaces and six-panelled and four-panelled pine doors. A 20th-century staircase incorporates pieces from the 19th century.
