Description
The pedestal cenotaph to Thomas Cawley and others, located by the chancel door of the Church of St. Peter, dates from 1795. It is made of buff sandstone and features a pedestal with a panel on each face, all edged with a bead mould. The inscription on the north side commemorates Thomas Cawley, Surgeon General to the Army, who died in Barbados on May 6th, 1795, aged 39, and Stephen Cawley, who died in Jamaica on October 12th, 1803, aged 42. The rectangular capstone has strongly fluted sides and a steep-sided concave top with a finial.
