Down Barn Cottage

Down Barn Cottage is a cottage built around 1850 to 1870. It is constructed from sarsen stone with brick quoins and dressings, topped with a thatched roof. The building is two storeys high and has a 'T'-shaped plan. There is a now-blocked entrance lateral to the stem of the 'T' that originally led to a stair hall. Currently, there is a boarded entrance door that opens into the living room. The cottage features paned casement windows and has thatch swept over two flush dormers, along with gable stacks. Inside, there is a large fireplace in the living room with a mantel beam and an oven to the side. This cottage is a surviving example of a remote shepherd's cottage, still retaining its traditional large fireplace.
