Description
West Overton House is a late 18th-century rectory, now a house. It is constructed of sarsen stone faced with rendered brickwork, and has a slate roof. The original central block is three bays wide, with two storeys and attics, and contains a central hall with a staircase. A lower extension to the east originally served as a dining room, later becoming a kitchen, and was further extended after 1860 with two additional bays. A further single-bay extension of two storeys was added to the west in 1982.
The central bay features a canted bay window on the ground floor and a large tiled porch with a margin-glazed door. The first floor has twelve-paned sash windows with shutters, and a central oculus window. Stone lintels are visible above the windows, and a parapet along the north front hides two dormers, while two similar dormers are incorporated into the mansard roof at the rear. Gable stacks are present.
An outbuilding on the south side has been converted into a drawing room, featuring a fine fireplace with imported Carrara marble.
