Description

Yew Tree Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century with alterations made in the early 19th century. It is timber-framed, with colourwashed brick noggings, stone sections, and brick extensions, all under a thatched roof. The original part of the house, on the left, is a single storey with an attic, and comprises three bays. Two bays are timber-framed with a gable stack on the right, forming a third stone bay. This section contains a living hall and two inner rooms. The building was extended to the right by a further two-storey, three-bay section in the late 18th or early 19th century. The original timber framing is three panels high, set on a stone sill, with wavy corner braces. The main entrance is a six-panel beaded door, set in a simple canopy, situated laterally to the centre hall bay. A canted bay window is located to the right, and patterned leadwork is found on the parlour window to the left. The extension is symmetrical, with a central half-glazed door under a thatched canopy, flanked by canted bay windows. The first floor has nine-pane single-hung sash windows. A rear wing on the right has a hipped roof. A rebuilt stack of ribbed brick, originally from the 17th century, rises from the centre.
