Description
The Read monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 3 meters north of the Lye monument and north of the north porch of the Church of St Mary. This tomb dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. It features two shield plaques on each side, fielded panelled piers with central rosettes, and a moulded base and cornice that has a pulvinated frieze, which is broken forward over the piers. The north side of the tomb has inscriptions dedicated to William Read and Jane Read, who died in 1766.
