Description
The Bradford Porch is a summerhouse located in the garden behind the Bath House, built in the 20th century by E. Tew. It incorporates late medieval stonework from The Priory in Bradford-on-Avon. The structure is made of coursed rubble stone with ashlar dressings and features a stone-tiled pyramid roof with a crocketted Gothic finial. It has a square plan with flush quoins and a finely detailed west doorway that is Tudor-arched, complete with richly carved spandrels and a hoodmould. Above the doorway is a reused late medieval shield supported by two angels. There are 20th-century single lights on each side of the porch. Inside, the porch boasts a fine fan-vault and two stained-glass shields, which were also taken from The Priory. The major part of The Priory was demolished in 1936, and the reconstruction of the porch dates from around 1970.
