Description
15 Castle Road is an end house in a terrace of five, likely built in the 1870s, as it does not appear on the 1866 Ordnance Survey map. The building is stuccoed and features a slate mansard roof with sprocketed eaves and stacks with rendered shafts and cornices. The plan is a double-depth rectangular shape, accessed from the outer side of the terrace. It is paired with No. 25 but has different details.
The exterior has two storeys and a basement, and it is set slightly forward from the main terrace. It features deep eaves supported by brackets, an eaves band, a platband, and corner pilasters. There are two first-floor and two ground-floor windows, all with moulded architraves and original 2 over 2-pane sashes with horizontal glazing bars. A shallow projecting chimney stack is located in the centre, although its shaft has been dismantled. The symmetrical right side, which is the entrance, has a coped, gabled projection in the centre with two round-headed first-floor windows that have pilastered architraves, key blocks, and sill blocks. There is also a later glazed porch with a lean-to slate roof, gabled in the centre. The interior has not been inspected but may still contain interesting features.
