Description

No. 81 Victoria Road is the end house of a terrace built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of plastered stone rubble and features end stacks with painted brick chimney shafts and pots, topped by a hipped slate roof. The layout includes a double-depth design with an entrance passage and stairs on the left, along with a small narrow service block at the rear left. This house is the right-hand end of a row of similar houses, including No. 63 at the opposite end, which are set back behind small front gardens. No. 81 and No. 63 are taller than the houses in between and share a cohesive architectural style.

The exterior consists of three storeys and a two-window front. The plaster façade has a plat band at the first-floor level. To the left, there is a round-headed front doorway with a moulded stucco surround, which is interrupted by blocks of vermiculated rustication. The entrance features a recessed six-panel door beneath a plain fanlight. The windows are all 19th-century four-pane sashes, notable for their unusual horizontal glazing bars on the taller ground and first-floor windows. Each window has moulded architraves and blocks beneath the sills, with Tudor-style hoodmoulds and leafy label stops on the first and second floors. The eaves project, showcasing a plastered soffit beneath the hipped roof. The interior has not been inspected.
