Description
No. 25 Castle Road is an end house in a terrace, built around the 1870s. The building is plastered with a slate roof featuring sprocketed eaves and stacks with rendered shafts and cornices. It has a double-depth plan, entered from the outer (left) return, and is set slightly forward from the other houses in the terrace.
The house is two storeys with an attic and has pilasters on the left and right sides, along with a platband. The symmetrical front has two bays, each with two ground floor and two first floor windows that have moulded architraves and are glazed with 4-pane sashes featuring horizontal glazing bars. There are also a pair of segmental-headed attic dormers, each glazed with 2-pane sashes.
The left return includes a 20th-century porch addition but appears to have a round-headed doorway with a keyblock. A large round-headed stair window on the first floor has a moulded, pilastered architrave and keyblock, and is glazed with a 3 over 2-pane sash that includes margin panes and coloured glass. The interior has not been inspected but may still have interesting features.
