Description

This is a cottage dating to around 1890, with possible earlier origins. It is situated at Ford, built at the head of an old creek that served as a mill pond until the early 19th century. The cottage is constructed of pebbledashed stone rubble, with end and rear stacks featuring brick chimneyshafts and some old pots. It has a slate roof. The plan is of a double-depth, one room wide, with a passage and staircase to the left. The exterior is two storeys with an attic and cellar, and has a two-window front. A recessed, late 19th-century top-glazed six-panel door is set within a doorway. Windows are 20th-century casements with glazing bars, including those in the full-height, right-hand canted bay that rises to incorporate a large dormer with a hipped roof. A boarded hatch doorway gives access to the cellar to the left of the front door. A 20th-century lean-to extension is on the left end. The main roof is gable-ended to the left, and runs continuously with the roofs of the neighbouring cottages to the right. The interior was not inspected. The cottage is included for group value.
