Description

This is a pair of houses, originally a single dwelling, built in the early 19th century. There may be earlier origins to the building. The structure is built of roughcast stone rubble with end stacks; one has a plastered brick chimneyshaft and the other has a brick chimneyshaft with some old pots. It has a slate roof. The original plan was a double-depth house with a central front doorway leading to a passage and staircase.

The exterior is two storeys with attics, and has a symmetrical two-window front. The central doorway contains a top-glazed six-panel door to number 2, and a six-panel door is located behind a 20th-century monopitch-roofed porch to number 1. Windows are canted bays with forward 12-pane sashes, flanked by 8-pane sashes. A canted dormer with similar windows sits under a hipped roof. The roof is gable-ended to the right and continuous to the left.

The interiors of both houses feature secondary staircases. Otherwise, they are well-preserved, with panelled doors and cupboards. The roof structure includes a king-post truss and several reused timbers. Some attic panelling is lined with a newspaper dating from 1846. The houses are located at the head of an old creek, formerly a mill pond, which was infilled in the early 19th century.
