Description

This is a water conduit dated 1674, located under the front wall of No. 71 on South Ford Road in Dartmouth. The conduit is made of painted stone and is set into the stone rubble revetment wall that supports the terrace where the houses on this side of the road are built. It features a round-headed alcove that once housed a tap and drain. Above the alcove, there is a datestone inscribed with the date 1674, the biblical reference John 14:4, and unusual symbols at each end.
