Description
Mariner's Homes is a building located on Victoria Road in Dartmouth, originally established as homes for poor mariners, possibly founded by William Ley in 1599. The structure was rebuilt in 1810 and underwent restoration with alterations in 1962. It features a mix of construction materials, primarily painted or plastered stone rubble, with the upper floors of the front being slate-hung timber-framing. The building has end and axial stacks with painted brick chimney shafts topped with pots, and it is covered by a slate roof.
The exterior consists of three storeys, with the main block displaying a symmetrical three-window front. The central windows are tripartite sashes, all with 12 panes, while the full-height canted bay windows at each end contain 16-pane sashes, which are 20th-century replacements. Between the central and bay windows are 20th-century part-glazed doors. The right end bay has a similar door and small 20th-century windows with glazing bars. The roof has plain eaves and is gable-ended. The interior has not been inspected.
