Description

144 Priory Street is an end-terrace house, dating from the mid 19th century. The exterior is finished with unpainted stucco and has a slate roof that rises higher than the neighbouring buildings. It features a moulded wooden eaves cornice with decorative modillions and dentils, rainwater heads at each end, and a renewed brick stack on the left-hand side. The house has three storeys and a three-window front, with tripartite plate-glass sashes, the upper floor windows being squat and elongated. A central mid-19th century doorcase incorporates square-panelled pilasters, a frieze with square panels at each end, and a dentil cornice. The door itself is of six panels with a plain overlight, set in plain reveals. Architectural detailing includes a plinth, channelled ground floor, a first-floor band, and rusticated quoins on the upper floors. A stack on the right-hand side was removed after 1981. The house is not inspected, but is said to contain contemporary fittings and pine roof trusses.
