Description

These gate piers and gate date to the 1870s and are located on Babbage Road in Torquay. The gate piers are square in section and sit on plinths, topped with low, oversailing pyramidal caps. The gate itself is made of timber and iron. It features acorn finials on the standards, chamfered cross timbers, and diagonal braces below the middle rail. An ornamental panel of ironwork is present above the middle rail, with spikes positioned above the top rail and below the bottom rail. The composition represents a rare surviving example of its type.
