Description
Cliffside Cottage Hotel is a house built in two phases around the 1840s, with later additions and alterations. The exterior features a stuccoed finish with rusticated quoins and a slate roof that is gabled at both ends. The building has stacks with octagonal shafts and platbands, along with crested ridge tiles.
The sea-facing elevation is two storeys high, while the rear elevation is single-storey. The front has a 2:2-window arrangement, with the right-hand block featuring a first-floor timber verandah that has two gables and a Tudor arched arcade. There are two ground-floor and two first-floor two-light timber casements. The left block has a two-window front and a flat-roofed single-storey addition at the front. The rear elevation has a six-window range with two gables and a projecting gabled porch that includes a chamfered Tudor doorway with a six-panel door. The building has 20th-century metal-frame windows.
The interior has not been inspected. Cliffside Cottage Hotel is part of a group of picturesque small houses located on the steep wooded cliffside above Babbacombe beach.
