Description
26 South Beach in Troon is a single-storey house with an attic, built before 1846, featuring a three-bay design with Tudor details. The house has projecting two-storey gabled bays at both the front and rear, creating a cruciform plan. It is constructed from squared and snecked stugged cream rubble sandstone with polished dressings. Architectural features include a base course, architraved Tudor-style hoodmoulds, corniced eaves, and tapering finials on the gables. The house has narrow strip quoins, some of which are painted, and chamfered surrounds and cills around the openings.
On the northeast (South Beach) elevation, the central bay is advanced and includes a projecting tripartite window at ground level with narrow sidelights and a castellated parapet. Above, there is a gabled hoodmould over a first-floor window centered beneath the apex. There are single windows at ground level in the outer left and right bays, which are recessed. A timber panelled door is located in the re-entrant angle, offset to the right of center, with a plate glass fanlight above.
The southwest (Esplanade) elevation also features an advanced central bay with a three-light canted window at ground level and a castellated parapet. Above this is a gabled hoodmould over a first-floor window centered beneath the apex. To the outer right, there is a single window in a recessed bay, with a gable-headed dormer above. A conservatory addition is present in the bay to the outer left, also with a gable-headed dormer above.
The house predominantly features 2-pane timber glazing and has a graded grey slate roof with raised skews and replacement rainwater goods. There are no chimneys.
The interior was not seen in 1997. The property is enclosed by low coped boundary walls along South Beach, with panelled, square-plan chamfered piers topped with painted caps. A rubble sandstone wall encloses the site at the rear.
