Description

This is a house dating from the earlier 19th century, built in an asymmetrical, single-storey design with an attic. It is a five-bay structure incorporating Tudor-Gothic detailing, with a two-bay addition set forward to the outer left, and a flat-roofed garage addition to the outer right. The original block is constructed from grey rubble sandstone, with some yellow rubble sandstone used in the additions; polished grey sandstone dressings, some lightly droved, are also visible, while the side elevations are finished with painted harl. The building has a raised base course, architraved hoodmoulds, a moulded eaves course, and tapering finials to the gables. Stugged rubble quoins are present, along with stugged long and short surrounds to chamfered openings, and projecting cills.

The northeast (South Beach) elevation features an advanced, gabled bay, offset to the left of centre. This bay incorporates a detached section with octagonal columns set into stop-chamfered reveals on the outer left and right; a continuous hoodmould links the single windows at ground level. A keyhole-window is centred beneath the finialled apex. A recessed porch with a Tudor-arched, part-glazed, timber panelled door, quadripartite fanlight, and a blind slit-opening above is located in the re-entrant angle to the right. A slated dormer is positioned behind the porch. To the outer right is a projecting four-light, pointed arched glazing row, and a single window to the outer left. An additional wing, set forward to the outer left, has single windows, and a blind, round-arched opening beneath the apex. Part-glazed boarded timber garage doors are located to the outer right.

The southwest (Esplanade) elevation features an advanced gabled bay offset to the right of centre, with a three-light canted window at ground level and a single window beneath the apex. A glazed addition is present in the penultimate bay to the outer left; a single window is centred in a projecting, gabled bay to the outer left, with a blind slit-opening above; and a single window is in the bay to the outer right. A single window is centrally positioned in the flat-roofed addition to the outer left, with single windows in the addition to the outer right.

Throughout the house, predominantly two-pane timber sash and case windows are found. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, with raised skews and replacement rainwater goods. Paired apex stacks with corniced diamond flues are present, along with a ridge stack featuring four linked diamond flues, from which the cans are missing.

The interior was not inspected in 1997.

Low, coped rubble walls run along South Beach, while taller, random rubble walls enclose the site to the sides and rear.
