Description
Earlier 19th century. Asymmetrical, single storey with attic, 5-bay Tudor-Gothic detailed house with pitched single storey, 2-bay addition advanced to outer left; flat-roofed garage addition to outer right. Grey rubble sandstone to original block; part yellow rubble sandstone to addition; polished grey sandstone dressings (some lightly droved); painted harl to side elevations. Raised base course; architraved hoodmoulds; moulded eaves course; tapering finials to gables. Stugged rubble quoins; stugged long and short surrounds to chamfered openings; projecting cills.
NE (SOUTH BEACH) ELEVATION: advanced 2-bay gable off-set to left of centre comprising detached octagonal columns set in stop chamfered reveals to outer left and right; continuous hoodmould linking single windows at ground; keyhole-window centred beneath finialed apex above. Gabled porch in re-entrant angle recessed to right; Tudor-arched surround to part-glazed timber panelled door; quadripartite fanlight; blind slit-opening centred in apex above; slated dormer set behind. Projecting 4-light, pointed arched glazing row in bay to outer right; single window in bay to outer left. Single windows in additional wing advanced to outer left; blind, round-arched opening centred beneath apex. Part-glazed boarded timber garage doors to outer right.
SW (ESPLANADE) ELEVATION: advanced gabled bay off-set to right of centre comprising 3-light canted window at ground; single window beneath apex. Glazed addition in penultimate bay to outer left; single window centred in projecting, gabled bay to outer left; blind slit-opening above; single window in bay to outer right. Single window centred in flat-roofed addition to outer left; single windows in addition to outer right.
Predominantly 2-pane timber sash and case glazing. Graded grey slate roof; raised skews; replacement rainwater goods. Paired apex stacks with corniced diamond flues; ridge stack with 4 linked diamond flues; cans missing.
INTERIOR: not seen 1997.
BOUNDARY WALLS: low coped rubble wall to South Beach; taller, random rubble wall enclosing site to sides and rear.
