Description
No. 50 Teignmouth Road is a detached villa built in the late 1840s or early 1850s, part of a development of nine villas on the north-west side of the road. The building is plastered with an asbestos slate roof that is hipped at the ends, and it features stacks with rendered shafts.
The villa has a rectangular double-depth plan, with the garden front facing the road and the entrance located on the right return, which originally included a passage leading to the stair. It stands two storeys tall and has deep eaves supported by paired brackets, along with an eaves band, a platband, and rusticated quoins. The front of the villa is symmetrical with three windows. The ground-floor windows are 6 over 9-pane sashes that have moulded architraves, while the first-floor windows, also with moulded architraves and sill blocks, have been reglazed with 2-light casements featuring three panes per light.
A verandah extends across the front, topped with a tent roof and supported by trellis standards that return on either side. There is a square-headed doorway on the right return. The interior has not been inspected.
