Description
This is a detached villa, built in the late 1850s or early 1860s as part of a development of nine villas along the north-west side of Teignmouth Road. It is one of a group of buildings with group value. The villa has a slate hipped roof and stacks with rendered shafts and projecting cornices. The exterior is plastered, with deep eaves supported by brackets, an eaves band, and a platband, as well as rusticated quoins. The symmetrical front façade has three windows on each floor. The ground-floor windows are 6 over 9-pane sashes, with moulded architraves. The first-floor windows have moulded architraves and sill blocks, and contain 12-pane sashes. A square-headed doorway on the right return is framed by an elaborate guilloche-moulded surround. The building’s plan is a rectangular double-depth layout, with the garden front facing the road and the main entrance on the right return, leading to a staircase. The interior was not inspected, but may contain original features.
