Description
This is a windmill tower located to the north-east of The Shire, likely dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed from slatestone and sandstone rubble, with the parapet rebuilt in mid-20th century brick. The tower is circular in shape and features splayed reveals on the north and south sides, segmental-arched windows, and a north-east doorway with voussoirs forming the arch. This structure is part of a group of former windmills that form an arc to the north of Torbay. A lease from 1673 mentions the construction of a mill with two stones, indicating its historical significance.
