Description

Penny’s Cottage is likely an 18th century or earlier house, originally a single building and later divided into cottages. It is constructed of a plastered mass wall, probably cob, and has a thatched roof, hipped at the left end and gabled at the right. The building has a long, rectangular single-depth plan with a later addition to the left. The front of the house is long, with six windows, and the thatched eaves project outwards above the first-floor windows. There are two entrances on the front; the right-hand entrance has a 20th century thatched porch supported by posts. The windows are small-pane timber casements; the upper floor has six windows, while the ground floor has four, with 2, 3, and 4 lights per window. A pair of bee boles are located on the front to the left. The interior has not been inspected, but may contain features of architectural interest.
