Description

This is a former windmill, likely dating to around 1810. It is situated within the garden of number 13 Higher Warborough Road, Galmpton (number 13 itself is not included in the listing). The windmill is constructed from local Devonian limestone rubble with red-brick window arches. It comprises a round tower that tapers upwards, reaching approximately four storeys in height as indicated by the doorways and windows. A low, concentric wall encircles the base of the tower, standing roughly the height of the ground storey. This wall is broken by doorways on the south side and opposite on the ground storey of the tower. Doorways also exist on the east and west sides of the second storey, though the lintel to the east doorway has collapsed. Segmental-headed windows are present on the north and south sides of each storey. The roof is absent. The tower is prominently visible from across the common when viewed from the A3022.
