Description
This is a former windmill tower, likely built in the late 18th century, with some alterations from the early 19th century and later removals. The structure is a tapering circular brick tower, constructed with brickwork laid in garden wall bond. It features a flat roof and a 20th-century metal ladder that provides access to the roof. The cap sails and machinery have been removed. The tower has three storeys, with the middle (first) floor containing three nine-paned sash windows set beneath segmental brick arches. The lower part of the tower is now enclosed within later 19th-century housing, specifically numbers 96 and 98. Historically, this mill was linked to the Ravenhead Plate Glassworks, established in 1773, and it appears as one of two windmills associated with the Glassworks on the Sheriffs map of 1816. This connection suggests that the windmill may have shifted from grain milling to serving the glassmaking process.
