Description

Moorend Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1676, featuring a rendered rubble exterior and a double Roman tile roof. The building consists of a main block with two gables, a lower service wing, and an attached wash/bakehouse. It is three and a half storeys tall, with a central gabled two-storey porch that has a ball finial, an ogee moulded door frame and lintel, and a studded door. The service wing is two storeys with one gable, and the wash/bakehouse is two storeys with two gables. The windows include 16 and 20-pane glazing bar sashes, and at the rear, there is a tall stair turret with wooden ovolo moulded transmullioned windows and diagonal stacks.

The interior of the farmhouse is remarkably unaltered, featuring cyma and ovolo-moulded ceiling beams. The former hall has a scratch-moulded ceiling border, while the parlour includes a moulded cornice and a large bolection moulded chimneypiece with an overmantel. The kitchen contains an 18th-century chimneypiece and a rare fitted dresser with ornate shaped and pierced ends. There is a dog-leg staircase with a scratch-moulded newel, and the attic staircase has a simple balustrade with square newels. Plank doors with wrought-iron strap-hinges are present, and the front door has a drawer-bar. A fine set of doors on the first-floor landing features heavy bolection moulded frames and moulded two-panel doors. The chamber chimneypieces include a bolection moulded example in the kitchen chamber with a moulded cornice. The second-floor landing has a partition with an ovolo-moulded doorframe and a balustrade above, while the attics are ceiled.
