Description

Moorend House is an 18th-century house situated on Bromley Heath Road, near Mangotsfield. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a hipped slate roof. The house has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with the attic space being partially hidden under the eaves. Originally, it had three windows on the front elevation, with a single, now blank, window to one side. The windows are glazing bar sashes set within exposed frames, and brick relieving arches are visible above the first-floor windows. Brick infill is present below the attic and first-floor windows. A gabled, two-storey porch projects from the left side with a sash window above the door. The door opening has a later thin slab hood supported by heavy brackets carved with acanthus leaves. A two-window extension is set at a right angle to the main body of the house and has a pantile roof, despite appearing to be from the mid-19th century. This wing appears on deeds dating back to 1801, when the house was sold and used as a school.
