Description
A range of barn, cowshed, and stores forming an L-shape, located at Moorend Farm and dated 1701, with later alterations. The structure is partly rebuilt and was formerly gable-fronted, with the eastern wing acting as a barn. It is constructed from pennant stone rubble with pantile roofs, featuring eaves and end gables. The west elevation has a central square-headed door opening with a free stone open pediment and oval free stone tablet above, enclosed in a moulded square frame with a cornice. Raised lettering on the tablet reads "BBE 1701" (or BRE). To the right of the door is a cambered-headed window opening. The right-hand end elevation has two 2-light casement windows with moulded stone mullions and dripmoulds, and a small oval window in the gable face, with relieving arches above. A similar oval window is in the gable face of the left-hand end elevation, below which is a large oval window with four keys, set in an oval frame with a carved rosette in each spandrel. A later wide door opening is on the ground floor, also with double relieving arches above. The south elevation of the barn incorporates a hipped roof porch with double doors under a square head, and a similar opening to the rear without a midstrey. Single loop openings are present front and rear, and there is an oval window with four keys in the end elevation.
