Description
Grove House and Grove Court is a house, now divided into two residences, dating from the early 19th century with later alterations and additions. The building is constructed of rubble with rendered surfaces and stone dressings, topped with lead and slate roofs, and is designed in a classical style. It features two storeys with a symmetrical arrangement of windows: two on the left, three in the centre, and one on the right, all of which are four-pane sashes. The windows have moulded, eared, and shaped architraves with keystones, except for the left ground window, which is a triple window set in a shouldered architrave with a segmental head for the centre light and a keystone. To the left of the central bay, there is a porch with wrought iron trellis work and a lead canopy roof, featuring a fielded panelled door with a transom light in a segmental head and a swept architrave with sidelights. The corners of the building are accentuated by rusticated pilasters with brackets above that support a cornice, parapet, and coping. The east and south sides are adorned with a wrought iron verandah canopy, and there is a bow at the rear around a bow window. The rear of the building has a central door with an open pediment on plain pilasters, while the west side includes a wrought iron porch with a lead canopy roof. Inside, the property features coved and decorative plaster cornices and ceiling roses, shutters, wrought iron stair balusters, and a wreathed handrail.
