Description

Street Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating to 1638, with subsequent alterations. The initials AE and WE are carved into the building. It is constructed of rubble, with roughcast rendering and pantiled roofs. There are gable stacks, including a central stack with diagonal chimneys. The layout is a T-plan, with a through passage. The building is two storeys and has an attic. A cross wing projects at the left-hand gable end. The service wing to the east is also two storeys high and features a 1:1:1 window arrangement. All windows are 2, 3, or 4-light casements, with angled dripstones to the ground floor windows on the left. A blocked first-floor stair window retains an angled dripstone. A porch with a studded door and a heavily-moulded frame with a cambered head is positioned to the left of the lower wing. A 19th-century single-storey extension is attached to the right. On the west side, there is a similar door and three casements, with a drip mould above the first-floor window. The rear elevation has a 2-light ovolo mullion window in the west gable at first floor level. Ground and first floor casements are present on the east side, with a further ovolo mullion window at the first floor. A door leads to the cross passage, as on the front. A central projecting closet block has oval bull’s eye windows in a moulded stone surround at both ground and first floor levels, with 20th-century windows on the north side. The interior features ovolo-moulded, stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, ovolo-moulded door frames, and a panelled parlour on the west front. This parlour has three doors with cock's head hinges in the north wall. A newel stair has a balustrade at the top. Stone fireplaces are present, as is a cellar beneath part of the house.
