Description

The Alveston War Memorial is a war memorial, designed by an unknown individual, constructed around 1921. It is made from rough-faced granite and features a square platform.

The memorial is designed as a Celtic cross, adorned with carved knot work on the arms and shaft. The shaft is tapering and square in section, set into a tapering plinth that has a moulded top, resting on a shallow base. The plinth includes inset inscriptions in black. The main face of the memorial is inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 AND 1939-1945 THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." The other faces list the names of the fallen, with 18 names from the First World War and 14 from the Second World War. The memorial is positioned on a two-stepped concrete platform.
